DISEASES

In 1988, when the Nukak were first contacted, we estimate that their population size was anywhere between 1500-2000 people. Though unintentional,  within a few years we introduced new diseases to them like malaria and influenza, which caused the Nukak population to suffer immensely. These diseases have caused nearly the entirety of their population drop in the last couple of decades(George).
